Update: No bomb found at Vernon Twp. McDonald’s; suspicious package turns out to be abandoned suitcase

Update: No bomb was found at the Vernon Township McDonald’s.

Vernon Twp. Police Chief Randy Detzel says the incident began when a suitcase was found abandoned in a parking space at the fast food restaurant. 

City of Erie Police Bomb Squad, Vernon Twp. Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Vernon Central Hose Company, and Meadville Ambulance were on scene. The Erie Bomb Squad did have the robot on the scene, but it was not used.

Authorities confirm the daycare next to the McDonald’s was evacuated, and 58 children were moved to safety during the incident.

The suitcase was disarmed and was found to be harmless. Nothing suspicious was found inside. No injuries were reported.

Police closed off access to the McDonald’s earlier Monday. The daycare next door was also evacuated.
