You might have noticed a number of Erie County Prison inmates out in the community with trash bags in hand.
The inmates were part of the prison’s Community Works Program, a program that allows the inmates to help clean up neighborhoods while at the same time giving back to the community.
Preparations for the Community Works Program began in the spring of 2015 and the first inmates were sent out in June of last year.
Participants in the program receive a credit to their work release debt.
Public and non-profit agencies can apply to become part of the program. You will be required to fill out an application and if eligible, the work will be done at no cost, but your agency is required to provide the supplies needed. You can call the Erie County prison for more information
