Thousands of immigrants and refugees call Erie home, one calling it a welcoming place with opportunities.
According to a 2016 census, approximately seven percent of Erie residents are foreign-born. Erie Resident Senada Alihodzic came to the US as a refugee in 1993, leaving Bosnia. She is now a naturalized US Citizen and works at the International Institute of Erie helping others resettle.
“It’s easy to get around,” Alihodzic tells us. “There are a lot of places that you can find a job, and Erie is a very welcoming community.”
Nearly 100 immigrants and refugees are expected to attend naturalization hearings tomorrow. The ceremonies will take place at the Federal Courthouse at 10am and 2pm.
