It may be a small parade in a small town – as one family put it – but it sure has big meaning.
The 101st East Springfield Memorial Day Parade stepped off on Main Street Monday morning.
Every year the VanSlyke family visits the memorials of late soldiers in their family then heads to the parade.
They say it’s great to see the tradition of the parade kept alive to honor those who’ve served in the united states military.
Joi VanSlyke says, “It means a whole lot that we can keep our freedoms that we have and that are still people out there willing to fight for our country.”
The parade ended at the Springfield Cemetery for a special ceremony.
