2019 marks 21 years for the Barstool Open. That’s the event where teams of four dress is silly costumes and make their way to the 18 holes of golf at bars in downtown Erie. The event raises money for MECA, which provides resources for people with disabilities in the area. Teams are competing for the best golf score, best costumes, and most money raised. We spoke with a few people who tell us this is their first time participating in the event. Like Emily Oravitz who lives in Erie now but originally attended a similar event in her hometown Pittsburgh. “I heard that Erie has a similar thing. So our friends have been doing it for 5-6 years. This year I finally joined their team,” says Oravitz.
Kirstie Orengia is also here for her first time, despite being an Erie native. “[I] just decided to do a fun day out with my family,” she says. Both Oravitz and Orengia say they plan to participate again in the event.
