A life jacket helped save the life a 4-year-old boy in a freak boating accident on Chautauqua Lake over the weekend.
A young boy was hanging onto an inner tube in the bow of the boat while others were skiing, when wind picked up the tube and tossed the youngster into the windshield of the boat and then into the water.
He suffered a broken ankle and a lacerated groin in the mishap, but thanks to his life jacket he stayed afloat until those on board were able to retrieve him.
He was rushed ashore and then life-flighted to Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.
The sheriff’s department said it happened not far from the Chautauqua Institution.
