40 kids go to ‘Safety Town’ in Lawrence Park

Local News

Dozens of kids in Harborcreek Township are getting hands-on safety lessons.

Safety Town is back in Harborcreek this week for the fourth year.  Around 40 kids entering Kindergarten this year are learning safe practices around buses, traffic crossings, bicycles, and all-around car safety through the use of an obstacle course.

The kids are also learning fire safety up close and personal with fire trucks and an ambulance.

Noble Brown, of the Lawrence Park Police Department, tells us they’re trying to teach the kids “that we aren’t the bad guys that some people portray us to be… That we are their friends, they can talk to us if there’s a stranger that talked to them or if they just simply need help and want to talk to someone.”

The Lawrence Park Police Department, Harborcreek Township, Local Volunteer Fire Departments and Harbor Creek School District are sponsoring the class.

It runs through Friday.
