Members at a local fitness center are learning tools to live a healthier life.
The American Heart Association held a healthy cooking class at the Eastside Family YMCA. Today, an Erie chef is showing members how to prepare nutritious meals. The class is part of a larger program called, ‘Check. Change. Control.’ The program is a blood pressure initiative designed to help people take ownership of their cardiovascular health.
Gretchen Scavella, Senior Coordinator for the Eastside YMCA, says, “It was like a win-win situation; everybody was so excited and grateful that we had the opportunity to connect with them. We actually did stats in a computer and almost 100 percent of them improved their blood pressure within the three-month allotted time.”
There are 19 locations in Erie participating in Check. Change. Control. with more than 700 people enrolled.
