A crowd funded bakery aims to bring joy and sweet treats to Downtown Erie

Local News

The smell of freshly baked cupcakes, cake pops, and other treats filled the new bakery Cake Zen. The new business is a dream come true for owner Matt McGreevey.

“I used to be a store manager at Starbucks for some time so just having my own vision is just something that I’ve always dreamed about and now it’s here,” said McGreevey.

The 27 year old opened his business by crowd funding, which raised him $5,000 in 15 days. Fans of the bakery call themselves “The cake fam.”

The goal of the bakery is to bring joy to the Erie area through fresh baked goods and coffee. Money collected from the crowd funding went towards the paint, construction, and renovations of the kitchen upstairs.

Business hours will be Monday through Friday 7 am to 2pm. Saturday and Sunday nights 7pm to 1 am.
