AHN, Saint Vincent announce new neurosurgical practice

Allegheny Health Network has announced a new neurosurgical practice at Saint Vincent Hospital, AHN Neurosurgery. The new practice will provide patients with access to state-of-the-art neurosurgical care, including the convenience of same-day appointments. 

AHN Neurosurgeon Derrick A. Dupré, MD, has joined the medical staff of Saint Vincent and is now providing care for patients at the new practice along with longtime Saint Vincent neurosurgeon Daniel Muccio, MD.

Dr. Dupré performs complex and minimally invasive spine surgery, including decompressions and fusions using open, percutaneous, and endoscopic techniques for the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. He also performs tumor ablation therapy, as well as functional neurosurgical procedures.  He specializes in the treatment of complex skull-base, neuro-vascular and neuro-oncological disorders including brain tumors and aneurysms, as well as peripheral nerve disorders such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Dr. Dupré graduated with honors from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Neurobiology before attending medical school at Texas Tech University. He then moved to Pittsburgh to complete a seven-year residency in neurosurgery, as well as a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at Allegheny General Hospital. He is involved in cutting-edge research on various topics ranging from spine biomechanics to neural circuitry and microbiological imaging procedures.

As the northern regional director of the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Neuroscience Institute, Dr. Dupré is part of an innovative program of leading medical experts who offer advanced care to patients with the most complex neurosurgical disorders. AHN surgeons are highly experienced at performing procedures safely and effectively for the treatment of all types of brain, spine, and neurosurgical conditions.

Dr. Dupré is a member of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American Association of Neurological Surgeons, North American Skull Base Society, and North American Neuromodulation Society, as well as local and national medical associations.

Dr. Dupré speaks fluent Spanish and is certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery.
