The future of transportation for the city of Erie  was the topic at Monday night’s All Aboard Erie meeting.

The group discussing ways to move forward with the proposal of a street car in downtown Erie. All Aboard Erie also looking into doing a study that will determine the benefit for this mode of transportation.

Last month, the Urban Land Institute recommended a light rail or streetcar to connect downtown with the bayfront. “City after city  across the nation are establishing streetcars as a method of economic development,” said Brian Pitzer, executive director of All Aboard Erie. “Where streetcars are installed, all kinds of economic development take place around those street cars.

All Aboard Erie is also partnering with graduate students from Penn State Behrend for a joint study on high speed rails between Erie and Pittsburgh.
