ERIE, Pa. – A well-known insurance agency is helping to draw attention to domestic violence using a common accessory for women during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
All State agent John Karnes presented a purple purse to Safenet as part of the Allstate foundation’s purple purse fundraising campaign, which provides security for victims of domestic violence through financial empowerment.
Linda King, executive director of Safenet, said domestic violence is much more than just physical violence.
“When you say the word, people think of black eyes and physical assault, and the fact is that is not the case at all,” King said. “It’s financial abuse, it’s entrapment, it’s the use of children, it’s social isolation.”
Safenet will raffle the designer purse off from October through February.
