Amazon takes a piece of the grocery industry

Local News

Amazon is now selling ready-to-cook meal packages as it looks to expand its grocery business.  The Amazon branded meal kits come with the raw ingredients necessary to prepare home cooked meals.

So far, the meals are only available in select markets.  Among them, is Seattle, where Amazon’s headquarters reside.

This, after Amazon announced in June that they made a $13.7 billion deal to buy ‘Whole Foods’.  To which lawmakers expressed concerns that the combination of Amazon’s competitive advantages in terms of size, consumer reach and the ability to absorb losses may discourage innovation.  Other concerns include possible lower wages and technology displacing workers.
