Training is underway for a program aimed at making Erie a safer and more comfortable place.
Today is the first day of training for the newly established ‘Friendliness and Cleanliness’ ambassador program. The Erie Downtown Partnership is running the initiative. Through the program, volunteers will be stationed downtown to promote a positive experience for visitors.
Emily Fetcko, of the EDP, says ambassadors will “…offer assistance for directions, wave finding, maybe even recommendations on the best family-friendly restaurant. We just want to have a warm, welcoming sense. When you come downtown, you feel that difference and it’s going to start little by little and we think these people can make a big difference.”
The program is based on ones already in place in Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Organizers say the volunteers will have matching t-shirts, so they’ll be easy to spot in the downtown area.
