The multi-cultural celebration known as Amerimasala brought hundreds out for its return this Saturday. The event began with a parade up State Street to Perry Square where a crowd danced, cheered and enjoyed the colorful displays.
Its been more than a decade since this event was held in Erie. Many who used to attend this event say they’re glad to see it back, and with more support from the community than they remembered seeing previously.
Batala New York, an all-female, Afro-Brazilian drum ensamble that came all the way from New York City for today’s performance. Their mission is to spark curiosity about African and Brazilian cultures through their striking performances. And it works. The crowd loved them. The interest was so great that there are even talks of a chapter of Batala becoming reality in Erie in the future.
