Another tragedy as three people are killed in an apartment fire in Hanover, PA this morning. The victims include a two-year-old and a pregnant woman, and her husband.
Fire engulfs the building with three apartments inside in Hanover Township early this morning.
Joe Temarantz, Chief of the Hanover Township Fire Department, tells us, “Well, we got the call around 2:30 this morning with a report of a structure fire with possible entrapment. While in route, the guys were getting updated reports of a working fire with multiple people entrapped. When the guys got here, they made a very aggressive attack on it, got several people out of the building, and transported to various hospitals throughout the area.”
Three people in the home, a husband, his pregnant wife, and a two-year-old girl, did not make it out of the fire alive. Investigators also say a three-year-old child was flown to the Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown for treatment.
Families in two other apartments escaped and were not hurt. Neighbors tell eyewitnesses the fire woke them up in the middle of the night. “A bunch of cops, bunch of everything on my street. To find out you lose children; I got a kid myself, making sure my boy’s alright. It’s right across the street from his house.”
A State Police Fire Marshall is searching for the cause. There’s no word on the conditions of the three-year-old child or the other victims injured in today’s fire.
The fire chief tells us as many as nine people are homeless. The Red Cross is helping the families who lost everything.
