Attorney General Josh Shapiro to appeal tossing of Graham Spanier’s conviction

Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro announcing today he intends to appeal a federal judge’s decision to throw out former Penn State President Graham Spanier’s child-endangerment conviction.

The federal judge agreeing with Spanier that he was improperly charged under a 2007 law for actions that occurred in 2001.

Spanier was convicted in March of 2017 with endangering the welfare of a child for failing to report the sexual abuse of children by former Penn State Assistant Football Coach Jerry Sandusky.

Spanier was scheduled to begin serving a minimum sentence of two months today.
