The deplorable crime that started in Conneaut, Ohio turns into a national search. And today, the victim’s family still wants answers. Today, friends and family buried one-year-old Sereniti Sutley. Her loved ones saying it’s time someone takes responsibility for her tragic murder.
Hundreds paid their respects today. This is the second time the Conneaut community has rallied behind Sereniti’s family. A vigil over the weekend also drew huge crowds of support, all saying tragedies like this one can’t happen anymore.
As the family grieves they say the emotion they feel most is anger. Sereniti’s uncle, Cain Dello, tells us he wants the man who raped and murdered the 13-month-old to be held accountable for his actions. Family members urging people to speak up and put an end to child abuse of all kinds. Dello has a message for anyone who might have information on where the suspect is hiding. “I just know that none of my friends, none of my true friends, would ever let somebody like that, it wouldn’t matter how much of a friend you are. You would not keep this person around you. He’s a monster and needs to be brought to justice.”
Jean Carlo, Sereniti’s Grandmother, says, “we have to let the system do what it’s supposed to do and we’re gonna need every drop of support”.
Conneaut Police are working with several other police stations throughout the region to track down the suspect, Joshua Gurto. Pennsylvania State Police say they are following tips and leads as they receive them. They say they’ve been working tirelessly to find the man wanted for Sereniti Sutley’s untimely death on October 7th.
Authorities believe Gurto fled town after questioning. They say the 37-year-old is their top priority right now. The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force joining the investigation. Marshalls tell us they’re offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Gurto’s capture. They tell us Gurto’s charges could worsen, depending on how many resources they have to put forth toward his capture.
