Back to school – free haircuts, dental checks and a chance to win $500

Local News

Local organizations are preparing kids for the classroom and getting parents ready, too!

The Fifth Annual Family Resource Fair kicks off today and runs through Sunday.  As many as 50 local agencies in the field of health and wellness, finance, family and home services will be on hand.  Guests must register at the door and will be entered into a drawing to win $500 to be used for rent, mortgage, or utility bills.

The fair runs from 10am until 4pm this afternoon at the John F. Kennedy Center on East 20th Street.

Before those students head to the classroom, they need a new haircut.  On Saturday, 20 local barbers will set up shop to give kids a new look.  That runs from 8am until 5pm at Pfeiffer-Burleigh Elementary School.

And, kids can also get their pearly whites checked out before the first day.  The LECOM School of Dental Medicine will host its annual ‘Healthy Smiles’ Event today!  That means any child between the ages of 2 and 17, accompanied by a parent or guardian, will receive free dental services.  This is at the LECOM Dental Offices on West Grandview Boulevard from 8am to 5pm.
