The Better Business Bureau is warning residents in Erie, Crawford and Warren County about “storm chasers”.
“Storm chasers” are often from out of town, or out of state, and look for damage caused by high winds and hail. They typically ask for all or at least half of the money up front, typically in cash or with a personal check, and perform little or no work at all.
Residents should look for these red flags:
- Contractors who solicit business door-to-door
- High-pressure sales tactics
- Demand cash payment or a check written to an individual up front
- Individuals who fail to show registration and permits
