Body of missing New York man found in Chautauqua Lake

The body of a Conewango Valley, N.Y. man who drowned in the waters of Chautauqua Lake was found Thursday.

The body of Ricky L. Whipple, 48, was found 200 yards from shore, north of the Chautauqua Institution at 5:45 a.m. Thursday.

Members of fire services located the body, according to police reports.

Authorities believe that Whipple was riding on an inner tube being towed by a boat when he went under Saturday night near the Chautauqua Institution in Mayville, N.Y.

Investigating the incident was the Chautauqua County Emergency Services, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and the Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team.

Chautauqua, Ashville, Bemus Point, Dewittville and Mayville volunteer fire departments assisted along with the New York State Police Dive Team.
