The body of a missing teen has been found in Lake Erie near Conneaut, Ohio, after the boy presumably drowned Sunday at a Conneaut Township Park beach.
Officials with the Conneaut Fire Department say the 16-year-old boy went missing Sunday evening while swimming at an unguarded beach during a weather advisory. His stepbrother was with him, the boy’s mother told JET 24 Action News on scene Monday.
A 911 call just minutes after the boy’s stepbrother noticed something was wrong brought the Coast Guard as well as the Ashtabula and Lake City, Pa. Water Rescue Teams out Sunday for an initial search. Crews have been out searching day and night for the boy ever since.
Assistant Fire Chief with the Conneaut Fire Department, Steve Sanford, told JET 24 Action News that their search was a “recovery” mission as of Monday morning, not a rescue.
There is a vigil being held for the the boy at 8pm Tuesday at the Conneaut Township Park.
