PennDOT plans to replace a bridge in Cambridge Springs but drivers are not the only ones that could be impacted. The 15-foot long slab bridge on Route 6 and 19 between Brink and Shady drives is expected to be replaced with a reinforced concrete box culvert next year.
The proposed 9-mile detour for cars would send motorists to Venango and back. During a public hearing in Cambridge Springs, the community said it wants to make sure pedestrians have access to the area.
Mayor Randy Gorske says, “There’ll be portions of the street closed down with access to, really, the only place to get groceries, which is Dollar General… So, we want to hear and understand what PennDOT can do for us.”
About 3600 drivers cross the bridge daily. Construction is expected to begin next summer, lasting two to three weeks.
