Area boaters will once again have up to the minute information on lake conditions this year, thanks to a series of weather buoys. But, there is concern that the program will run out of money.
Four of the buoys are working in the waters of Lake Erie and Presque Isle Bay and a fifth will be in place soon. They provide information on wave speeds, temperatures, oxygen levels in the water, and more.
Pennsylvania Sea Grant, which oversees the program, tells us that costly repairs last season have left the program depleted, and without donations, the program could end after this year’s boating season.
