ERIE, Pa. — Not many teens look forward to going back to school.
But for Cathedral Preparatory School junior Ian Malesiewski, Monday was a day he has been waiting for.
It was a hallway filled with emotion and cheers at Prep, 225 W. 9th St., Monday morning
Students and faculty came to school early, lining the halls to welcome back Malesiewski after he suffered a spinal cord injury during a wrestling tournament in early June.
“I didn’t expect it at all,” Malesiewski said. “It was a great welcome home. They have been supportive through the whole thing. I am just glad to be back.”
Ian made his way into class participating in studies in his very own room – designed and created specifically for his needs – and he is ready to get down to business.
“I kind of just want the whole hub bub to be over and just get back to normal back to school,” said Malesiewski, who will be able to graduate with his class of 2018.
“Going down the hallway it was very emotional you can feel the love and looking at the classmates faces you know they were just so happy to be back,” Prep principal Jim Smith said. “And the freshmen, who didn’t know Ian because they weren’t here to participate, just speaks volumes to what we call the Prep brotherhood.”
