More than 120,000 people are waiting for life saving organ transplants, that’s according to the center for organ recovery and education, also known as core.
Today at Saint Vincent hospital a flag raising ceremony helped kick off national donate life month.
The presentation featured families who have been touched by organ donation, doctors who spoke on raising awareness to help eliminate the negative stigmas associated with donation and an opportunity for people to ask questions.
Doctor George Mercado says it’s incredibly important to discuss donation because one person who donates their organs can save up to five lives.
Core says the hope from ceremonies like today is to get more people to register to be a donor.
