CHAUTAUQUA, N.Y. — Chautauqua Institution’s board of trustees announced Michael Hill as its new president on Friday.
Hill will succeeded Tom Becker, who retired in December, as the institutions 18th president.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Michael is coming on board,” board chairman James Pardo said in a news release. “He is a high-energy, visionary leader who understands how to balance tradition and progress.”
The 42-year-old New York native has led service organizations including Washington National Cathedral, the Washington Ballet and United Cerebral Palsy.
Hill directed a $125 million expansion of the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., the largest single gift ever made to a theater in the United States.
