Inmates at SCI Cambridge Springs are getting a chance to train dogs from the Anna Shelter.
The program ‘Canines Achieving Miracles in Prison’ allows the inmates to teach the dogs how to behave over an eight-week span.
The prison has created two playpens for the dogs to run around and work with their handlers in.
After the training courses, the dogs will ‘graduate’ from the program and will have the chance to be adopted.
Jamie Schneider, Supervisor of Canines Achieving Miracles in Prison, tells us, “We’ve seen very good improvements with the dogs since they’ve been here, as well as the inmates; they enjoy having the dogs here as a companion.”
Schneider added he hopes this program will have longevity at the prison.
