The Erie County Coroner is now releasing the victim’s name in the first homicide of the New Year.
Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook spoke with us today, telling us that there is no question that the shooting the took place in the in the 400 block of Chestnut Street Monday night was a homicide.
” I have ruled the death a homicide due to a gunshot wound to the chest,” says Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook.
The shooting occurred shortly after the 10 PM Monday night.
“We have had no luck locating any family, so I am going to release the name of the victim,” says Cook. “the name is Jeffrey Miller, 51 years old.”
Cook says that he has had no luck in trying to locate the family of Miller, nor where Miller is originally from. The Erie Police are continuing to investigate the homicide, but say it’s going to take some time.
“In shows, they have one hour to do it,” says Police Chief Dan Spizarny. “They have to get the whole story together, sometimes people are under the misinterpretation that things get solved in one day. It takes a long period of time.”
Erie Police have yet to name a suspect in the shooting.
