Mercyhurst University’s Sullivan Conservatory of Music opened their doors Saturday for an unusual opportunity.
Kids as young as three were given a chance to be exposed to music and musical instruments while getting a free lesson on the cello, viola and violin. The idea of beginning music instruction early in life was pioneered by Violinist, Shinichi Suzuki.
Mercyhurst has two teachers who are registered Suzuki instructors and the university will be offering lessons this fall, based on Suzuki’s teaching methods.
Jonathan Moser, Music Instructor, says, “getting their hands on to instruments getting them real experience with it as opposed to telling them about it; being able to experience it, is really exciting for them”.
About 30 kids took advantage of ‘Suzuki Saturday’.
