City Council to develop ordinance regulating LED signs

Local News

Also at City Council, an ordinance to regulate LED signage is causing a debate.

Council is proposing regulating the lighted signs to ensure they do not distract or cause harm to people.  Council is considering a set of rules that dictate, for example, how long an image should be on the screen to avoid a flashing effect.

Some business owners are saying that the language of the ordinance is too vague.

Greg Coleman, President Erie SeaWolves, says, “It treats the video board at the stadium or the proposed new LED at the Warner Theater the exact same way as a small marquee at a local convenient store.  And, we think that that’s just not quite right because the uses are not the same. “

City Council will continue to work on the ordinance.
