City Council to revisit aggressive panhandling resolution

Local News

Erie City Council will revisit an ordinance that would ban aggressive panhandling.

Talks of a panhandling ordinance were introduced to the council by a resolution from Councilman Bob Merski in July.  Councilwoman Kathy Schaaf initially opposed the ordinance because of concerns over the rights of impoverished people who might solicit for money.

She says now she’s had a change of heart.  “People have a right to ask, but not to harass people and that is my issue.”

Erie City Council will take up the issue for a first reading during its regular meeting tomorrow morning at nine.
