City councilman says EMTA board members shouldn’t fear being replaced…

Confirmation of a new EMTA Board of Directors will have to wait.

The Erie City Council has tabled a vote on Mayor Joe Schember’s five nominations to the Board of Directors.  The council says they need to seek further legal advice because of uncertainty over whether two members remain on the board after refusing to step down.

Councilman Cas Kwitowski also questions whether it is appropriate for board members to be forced to resign.  “…They were formed to make decisions that were non-political in nature–businesslike decisions, and that’s why we appoint people to boards. They should not be under the fear of getting replaced or fired, because somebody disagrees with them.”

The council says they will take up the issue at the next meeting or when they have more information.
