As city employees take on new responsibilities, they are beginning to make more money.
Earlier today, Erie City Council met to go over the concerns some had about pay raises.
Members went on to explain that as positions have been eliminated, a portion of that former salary is now going to the city employee taking on added responsibility.
Councilmember Liz Allen went on to explain what she hopes for the future in terms of evaluating employees.
“When the new budget comes along, we don’t have across the board pay increases by three percent, but that those paid increases are paid to performance. I believe in performance evaluations and making sure people are compensated correctly for the jobs that they’re doing.”
Allen went on to explain that the city is not only saving on salary but also on benefits and pensions as well.
