The city of Erie is working to make its newest community members feel safe.
Today, the city of Erie and the Erie Police Department held the first-ever crime reporting training for refugee caseworkers. Officers are explaining what their roles are in the community and what caseworkers and refugees should know when it comes to contacting authorities.
Niken Astari Carpenter, City of Erie Executive Assistant, says, “I hope it will encourage people to feel comfortable that here; the city, the police department; we are here to help.”
The organizer says it’s important to have trainings like this one so everyone knows what to do in a serious situation.
