City to hire financial advisor

Local News

The city of Erie is looking for help in dealing with their finances.

Pennsylvania’s Early Intervention Program provides a consultant that comes in and works regularly with cities.  The consultant will help lower Erie’s expenses and raise the city’s revenue.

The Schember Administration is looking at the top three recommendations to see which will have the biggest financial impact on the city’s operations.

Mayor Joe Schember says, “last year, we were in an $11 million hole before we even started. We had to figure out, ‘how are we going to come up with $11 million or cut expenses to deal with that?’ This helps us plan long-term.  You shouldn’t budget year to year.”

An announcement will be made when a candidate is selected after the state approves the funding.
