City funds are backed up because of a dispute between the city treasurer and mayor. Now taxpayers dollars may be used to try to fix the problem.
City Treasurer Sue Divecchio says her office is about a month behind on work because of an opening in her office.
Divvecchio and Mayor Sinnott still disagree on who should fill the position. Both are claiming it’s their job.
Now Divecchio has decided to hire an attorney to help with the disagreement. First, that hire must be approved by city council. It is on next Wednesday’s agenda.
Divecchio says Mayor Sinnott won’t budge and she needs the clarity from an attorney.Meanwhile, she says her office is doing its best to deal with the work load.
The money for the attorney would come from her budget she says, which is tax payer money.
She says she’s sorry to taxpayers that this is how their money may be spent, but she says she’s an elected official and should be able to hire her own employees.
