Closing arguments have begun in the murder trial of John Grazioli.

Yesterday, the murder trial took a dramatic turn when Grazioli, himself, took the stand.  He said the shooting death of his wife was an accident, that he was showing her how a new gun worked when it accidentally went off.

The victim, 31-year-old Amanda Schmitt Grazioli died in the incident on March 8th, 2018.

Grazioli admitted he and his wife had consumed a mix of cocaine and alcohol the night before the incident.  Toxicology results during Amanda’s autopsy confirm she did have drugs in her system at the time of her death.

But, the prosecution believes Grazioli had been planning this murder for at least a month, buying the gun the month before and changing his will to leave Amanda nothing.

Closing arguments began at 9:30 this morning.  Stay tuned to JET 24 Action News and yourerie.com for the verdict.
