A local non-profit is opening a much-needed shelter to serve women struggling with homelessness.
Community of Caring’s MaryRose Sanctuary opening its doors with an official ceremony. The shelter holds around 12 women for overnight and emergency stays. Staff at the organization say there is a great need in Erie for facilities like this one.
Grace Kennedy, Director Community of Caring, says, “We’ve had very limited shelter beds for women in Erie. And often we would have to turn people away. And it’s really a terrible feeling to tell someone we don’t have anyplace for you. We can’t help you.”
The organization says they hope to continue to grow their ‘Impact Homelessness’ program in the Erie region.
