Erie County’s Executive has refused to sign a tax increase passed by County Council but that refusal won’t change anything.
When Erie County Council passed the 2019 budget earlier this month, they raised taxes by point-three mils. That move coming after County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper proposed a spending plan with no tax increase. Dahlkemper showed her opposition to the increase by not signing the ordinance that created it but that’s only symbolic.
“It is a five-two vote. It is veto proof. If it was four-three, I could veto it and they would have to go back and get a fifth vote but it was already five votes in favor, so it was veto proof,” said Dahlkemper.
Even without Dahlkemper’s signature, the tax increase will go into affect adding about 30 dollars for every one hundred thousand dollars your property is worth.
