Court rules in favor of Montessori in school property debate

The two-year long legal battle for the Montessori Regional Charter School to have a chance to buy the former Ridgefield Elementary School property has come to an end.

Commonwealth Court ruled the Ridgefield Elementary School property, 3227 Highland Road, be sold at public auction, giving Montessori a chance to bid.

The decision reversed Erie County Judge John Garhart’s approval of the private sale of the property to Velocity Network.

“This community needs people who work in a civic-minded manner,” Montessori CEO Anthony Pirrello said. “We saw that from the beginning, we know the law, we understood it and it’s gratifying feeling to understand that we’ve been justified in our action all along.”

Pirrello said this ruling shows there is no competition between Millcreek School District and the charter school.
