Monday May 22, 2017 – A Crawford County man hurt in a motorcycle accident earlier this month remains at UPMC Hamot. He says his helmet saved his life.
Mark Sheldon crashed when a car reportedly turned in front of him, heading to a Dollar General parking lot, on Main Street just outside of Conneautville. Sheldon was airlifted to UPMC Hamot in critical condition. He is currently suffering from a broken sternum, broken femur, bruised heart and lungs. But Sheldon says it is because of his helmet he is still alive.
This isn’t his first accident. Thirty-five years ago this month Sheldon lost his arm in a motorcycle accident just a mile away from the 2017 accident. It took him 27 years to get back on a bike. But after this accident he says he is done riding. Sheldon does encourage motorists to be aware of bikes, and always look twice.
