A small Crawford County bridge could have a big impact on the future of area roads.
The 28-foot bridge on Hatchtown Road in Sparta Township will soon be the first one in the area to be owned by a local municipality but replaced using precast pieces from PennDOT.
Those pieces can be made during the winter months, keeping PennDOT workers busy year-round, while saving money for the township, too.
PennDOT says they hope other communities will want to join in. The PennDOT partnership is expect to save Sparta Township about $650,000.
