Cyber ‘Prime Day’ helps crash Kmart/Sears

Local News

It’s not Cyber Monday, but it might as well be as Amazon gets ready for its ‘Prime Day’.

Some businesses are choosing to hold sales around Prime Day so as to not miss out on market share, but others don’t see the relatively new annual event as much of a threat.

Other retailers are lining up their own deals:  JCPenney, Kohl’s, and Macy’s are all offering exclusive discounts before and during ‘Prime Day’.  However, major players like Walmart, Target and Lowe’s are skipping the event.

Prime Day begins at 9 o’clock tonight.

But, Prime Day may be an ingredient as some of these retailers priming up for more closings.  Kmart added 35 stores to their closing list and Sears added 8 more to close by October.

Sears has already announced 265 closings this year and this latest paring will leave the company with 1100 stores.
