ERIE, Pa – A dozen local women embark on a 100 mile bike ride to spread important messages along the way.
Around 7:00am on Monday, the group of women began their journey from Lake Country Bike Shop in North East. Their final destination is Niagara Falls, Canada, but they’re making 5 stops in between.
“Cycling with Sisters” is a social justice, cycling, and social media pilgrimage. The sisters describe themsevles as a small group of individuals who enjoy cycling and who are committed to advancing the mission and image of Catholic Sisters.
The “Cycling with Sisters” group is part of Communications for Women Religious. CWR is a professional organization of personnel responsible for communications within religious congregations of women. The organization’s mission is to be a network of professional support and education for members who promote understanding of women religious, enhance their image and advance their mission.
At various stops, the women will offer prayers and educate the public through social media platforms, like Facebook LIVE videos and Twitter.
They’ll be discussing the work that Catholic Sisters are doing to address current social justice issues. Some of the issues include human trafficking, poverty, immigration, environment, and nonviolence.
The group is expected to reach Niagara Falls, Canada by sunset, where they will be participating in the the CWR annual conference from October 3-7.
