We will soon be learning more about the future of bus service in Erie County.
Erie Mayor Joe Schember and County Executive Kathy Dahlkemper are planning a joint news conference Tuesday morning. They are expected to discuss the future of the troubled Erie Metropolitan Transportation Authority (EMTA).
Both leaders have asked the entire board to resign given ongoing issues and hope to rebuild the board from scratch. But some, like Board Member Fred Rush, have expressed reluctance to resign.
Authority members are appointed by political leaders but are independent of those leaders once in place. That means they can not be forced off the board until their terms expire.
