More than 100 cows from a longtime dairy farm will soon have new homes. The seats were full at the Union City Livestock Auction today.
Buyers bid on around 120 cows originally from County Line Farm in Cambridge Springs. The auction comes after the owners of the farm decided to shut down their business, saying the market conditions are largely to blame.
Ed Finney tells us, “We’re just gonna sell our milking cows. This time around, I’m keeping quite a few of my heifers, probably about 30 animals to raise them and hopefully the market will recover and I can get more for those animals later on.”
The owners say the decision to sell their cattle was not an easy one, but they tell us they’re getting out of the industry while they can.
