The strawberries are ripe and red which means summer is here.
Mason Farms open their strawberry patches for day-one picking.
The public is welcome to buy a basket and fill with fresh strawberries from the fields the rows were filled with people finding the perfect berries ready to eat or make into pies and jam.
Lots of folks, out filling their baskets to the brim. John Mason, retail manager for Mason Farms says, “Everybody’s just looking for that first of summer and strawberries are the first thing that guarantees summer is right here.”
Jacob Donahue, a local out picking strawberries says, “I’m always outside so i like the environment and coming out and getting down on my hands and knees and getting some berries.”
More “you pick” patches will be ready for harvest within the weeks. Mason says, “beans pretty soon and of course tomatoes are real big in the fall with everybody with their sauces.”
