Deandre Tate has been found guilty of assault of a law enforcement officer and attempted homicide.
Tate was charged after a traffic stop gone bad in late January. The incident began at East Sixth and Ash streets when police attempted to stop a vehicle for a stop sign violation. The driver took off before pulling into the parking lot of the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home. He allegedly jumped out of his car and ran, firing seven times in the presence of police. Erie Police returned fire, hitting Tate in the chest and side.
Tate’s attorney said he had no intent to hurt or kill the officers, but the jury members did not agree.
No word yet on when Tate will be sentenced.
