Diocese of Rochester files bankruptcy in wake of NY Child Victims Act

Local News

The Diocese of Rochester is filing for bankruptcy.

Rochester is the first Diocese in New York to file bankruptcy in the wake of the sex abuse crisis.

It’s happening one month after victims first began filing claims under a new State Law called the Child Victims Act.

According to the court documents and the Diocese itself, bankruptcy does not mean churches will close, or the Diocese has run out of money.
